This is not my first blog post, but it probably should have been. It actually took me a little while to figure out the answer to this question, so perhaps it is good that it has taken me so long to get to this “first” post. It gave me time to think and organize my thoughts.
To introduce myself, my name is Melissa. I am 39 years young. (Yes, I still consider myself young!) I have the most supportive parents a girl could ever ask for, and one sister, Becky, who passed away due to a terrible car accident in 2010. It changed my world.
The accident was the beginning of my world cycling downward. I was a walking country song. First I left my job and moved back in with my parents due to a breakdown, followed shortly after by the loss of my home, and then eventually the loss of my car. Eventually I had to face the big “B” from my breakdown, and yes, that B = bankruptcy.
Life doesn’t always goes as planned, they say, and guess what? “They” are right. During this tumultuous time of my life, I learned a lot about myself and the direction I want my career, or new career to head, as I left my old life behind. It took a lot of decision-making on my part, and there was a lot of back and forth on what career I wanted, but in the end I realized the right path for me was writing. What started as a therapeutic outlet during a stressful period of my life, has grown into something I love doing very much.
So now I am back in college for the second time, going for my second degree, this time in writing, in the hopes that one day I will be not just an aspiring author, but an author by right. I started this blog so that I could share my trials and tribulations with writing, as well as hone in on my writing skills. I want to improve, and I love to write – what better platform to do this then through blogging?
