I don’t know if you’ve heard the term yet, but a “cord cutter” is someone who chooses to go without cable, and just use wireless internet services for their main source of television entertainment. I cut the cord yesterday and I hope that I can stay with it. Not only is it cheaper, but I find when I am tired of searching for television shows and movies to watch that I will end up putting on music and listening to it for a good portion of my day. In turn, I actually end up spending a little less screen time than I used to which I think is a great thing. I have spent far too many hours in front of the TV watching mindless shows just to pass the time. I am more likely to find something more creative to do with my time when I am not stuck in front of the TV.
For example, yesterday I took my dog, Mickey, on two walks and today I’ve already planned to spend a little time cooking something in the kitchen. I am pretty sure I see a walk in my future as well as I am trying to incorporate lots of walking into my daily activities and when all is said and done, there will still be plenty of time left over to work on my book!
Because this has been working out so well for me, I’ve decided to take it one step further and limit myself to two hours of television (or 1 movie) a day. It’ll be tough, but I think this cord cutting life is going to be a positive change for me. I foresee creative inspiration coming into my life in many ways now that my TV time is limited.
What’s something you’ve changed in your life recently to bring about positive changes?
Watching television is like taking black spray paint to your third eye. – Bill Hicks
