A Writer’s Goals

Now that I’ve transformed and restarted my blog, what do I hope to accomplish with this new blog? Let’s talk about goals!

Well first of all it is a place for me to share my thoughts and creative works. It’s also a place for me to write! I can write whatever I choose on topics that I choose, a rarity I think. It’s a place for my own creative expression. I also hope it is a place where I can slowly practice and improve upon my writing.

I don’t know if I have shared it with you yet on here, I know I did on my old blog, but I am working on a new book, a novel. I’ve temporarily given it a title, but I know it’s not going to stick so I am not going to share it on here. It’s a special book, since it will be my first official novel and I’d like to try to submit it for actual publication vs. self publishing. I’ve written just under 3000 words so far. My goal when I started was to write 1000 words per day, but sometimes life gets in the way. Originally the plan was to get it finished prior to starting college again in the Fall, but I am beginning to think that it is a lofty goal. I have taken a few breaks from writing to read, as I saw the book by Charlaine Harris Midnight Crossroads at the store and somehow realized I have been neglecting my reading. Particularly if one of my favorite authors, has not just one book done in this series, but three! Where have I been?? I am also dying to read Jenny Colgan’s The Cafe by the Sea, another author I fell in love with. It’s the perfect book for summertime!

My other writer’s goals are to complete college and gain a degree in writing. I’d like to focus on technical writing, and learn the creative stuff on my own time. Although, if I get the opportunity you can sure bet, I’ll be taking some classes in both technical and creative writing. I’m the kind of girl who likes to have a back up plan in place. I don’t put all of my eggs in one basket. Technical writing will be my job, and creative writing will be something I work on outside of work.

I’d also very much like to keep up with my blog. I can’t neglect it. It’s just a fact of life for me now. Writing is in my blood. It was in my sister’s blood and it has been churning in mine quietly all along. My blog was me testing the waters to see if I could write. It’s not about being famous for me. It’s about expressing yourself through words. If you haven’t noticed, I’m a little bit wordy!
