Yep, it’s here, Memorial Day weekend! What do you do for your Memorial Day?
Every year (weather permitting) we head outside to the nearby cemetery where the VFW puts on a memorial day ceremony. Near the end of the ceremony – the timing can sometimes be off but they do their best!- an airplane flies overhead dropping the red memorial day flowers to place on the graves of loved ones. We then take a walk around the cemetery remembering those we’ve lost, and ending at my sister’s grave. My sister was not a veteran, but that doesn’t mean she won’t get flowers on memorial day. In fact, it’s one of the only day’s I make a trip to her gravestone. It’s not that I am against visiting her grave, it’s just that I don’t feel that she is still there when I go. I also don’t always bring flowers to her grave, I am not sure why, but I think it has something to do with me not yet coming to terms with memorializing her at her grave yet. Maybe someday, or perhaps it will always be this way where instead of a physical place marking her passing, I feel her inside my heart, and wherever my family is because she is also in their hearts.
On a cheerier note, we also usually spend sometime with the family, and when time permits it…we barbecue for everyone.
There will be no barbecue this weekend. We are expecting rain, – but there will be plenty of time to cook in the kitchen! I plan on creating my own adventurous meals and desserts for the holiday. (Don’t worry, I’ll blog them all on InTheCookhouse)
I’m also planning some Netflix, I know, I know, that may sound lame, but I am really into my current show and I want to get caught up!!
Other than that, there might be some house cleaning squeezed into the mix.
All in all it will be a pretty solid weekend, one I am looking forward to.
Oh by the way, it was day 2, 0 cigarettes. I made it through! Not too shabby if I do say so myself!
